In this competitive environment, why do so many small retailers fail or simply close?
Michael Bergdahl's answer: I have found success starts with the belief, and the commitment on the part of the small retail shop owner to succeed. Some actually close their doors without a fight. In every market where a big box store has opened there are small local retail stores which were in business before the big box store opened its doors and those local retailers are still in business and thriving today. The key is to differentiate your product offerings, provide great service and don’t try to compete with big box retailers on price. Yes, it is hard work, and it will require change . . . and fast!
