| How
does Wal-Mart get its field organization to execute its corporate standards
& policies and procedures, with so many stores in remote areas and new
markets? Michael Bergdahl's answer: It starts with their corporate culture. Wal-Mart embraces 3 core values: 1. Respect for the individual, 2. Strive for Excellence and 3. Serve customers. The company is renowned for technology but that technology is only a tool to enhance the customer experience. Though Wal-Mart is the World's Largest Company it operates like a small company. Wal-Mart's Leaders accomplish this by pushing responsibility and decision making downward. Store Managers are empowered to run their store to serve the needs of local customers. They teach their managers to simplify everything they do. Everyone who works in a store is focused on serving customers. Store Managers and merchandise buyers talk with customers and respond to their needs by providing products to meet their needs. At Wal-Mart the customer is king! |
